Overview
Legislative Decree 1582 amended Peru's migration law to create a visa for foreigners who work remotely for employers or clients outside Peru, with a planned stay of up to one year, renewable. For a category to be usable it must appear in Migraciones' TUPA (the procedures and fees manual); successive TUPA updates in 2024 and 2025 did not include it.
As of September 2026, therefore, “there is still no way to file, no published requirements and no fees set”.
Editor's note — Guides that quote a US$1,000 monthly income requirement are repeating a proposal, not a rule. Nothing has been regulated. Treat any agency offering to “process your Peru nomad visa” with suspicion.
Who is eligible
- Intended: foreigners working remotely for companies registered outside Peru or as independent contractors for foreign clients.
- Intended: stay of up to 365 days, renewable.
- Currently available instead: tourist entry (many nationalities visa-free), with stays granted for up to 90 days at a time and a maximum of 183 days per 365-day period — no work rights.
- Currently available instead: the “trabajador independiente” residence for those who can document freelance income.

No procedure exists yet.
No income requirement exists because the visa has never been regulated. Proposals floated a figure around US$1,000 a month, in line with other Peruvian visa categories, but nothing has been published.
Costs & fees
- No fees — there is nothing to apply for.
- Tourist entry is free for visa-exempt nationals; overstays are fined per day.
- The independent-worker route carries ordinary Migraciones fees.
Taxes
Staying more than 183 days in any 12-month period makes you a Peruvian tax resident, taxed on worldwide income at progressive rates up to 30%. Non-residents are taxed only on Peruvian-source income.
